Pastor of Children, Youth, & Administration

Job Responsibilities:

Children and Youth Pastor

  • Provide visionary leadership for, and development of Peace’s children’s ministry (infant through 8th grade) and youth ministries (9th through 12th grade) for a multicultural, multi-socioeconomic gospel centered church with currently 20 children, a fourth of which are middle school age.
  • Teach and pastor children and their families into the knowledge and discipleship of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
  • Recruit, assess, train, pastor and schedule volunteer teachers and assistants
  • Create and sustain the culture, policies, and protocols that promote both the safety of our church and families.
  • Develop, deepen and nourish the discipleship of the parents of our children
  • Develop systems and ministry initiatives that seek to educate the whole child from infancy through high school
  • Develop middle school small group for Peace Fellowship teens
  • Establish a weekly ministry partnership between high school students at IDEA Academy and Peace Fellowship Church on Wednesdays from 1:30 – 3:30 with the possibility of expanding to other high school aged youth combining both enrichment activities and opportunities to share the gospel of Christ.
  • Review and assess current curriculum with an eye toward developing our children in a changing multicultural and multi-socioeconomic context.
  • Partner with church volunteers to plan and execute youth-centered church events, such as the Fall Harvest Fest, Spring EasterFest, and Summer FilmFest Outreach

Church Administration

  • Help develop, implement and improve administrative protocols for all church ministries, with logistical support to Children’s Ministry, Greeting and Hospitality  
  • Help the church and relevant leaders be aware of upcoming calendar events, and manage signups/RSVPs when needed   
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Peace and IDEA PCS for all ministry and logistical concerns
  • Coordinate Sunday morning worship services, includes preparing the worship schedule, liturgists, ushers, worship slides and IT support, hospitality, etc
  • Coordinate follow up with visitors and newcomers (i.e. collect visitor cards on Sundays, send initial “welcome” email, send names to Pastor and/or other members of the visitor/newcomer ministry team for additional follow up, maintain database if applicable)
  • Sort the mail, daily checks of church voicemail and email, carry church cell phone  
  • Organize and maintain office space & supplies   
  • Regularly update church calendar and website with all church events  
  • Send weekly e-blasts
  • Support in the production of written materials when needed 
  • Produce weekly bulletin and weekly Sunday slides in coordination with worship pastor and senior pastor
  • Update electronic church directory once annually; update pictorial church directory every 2-3 years
  • Coordinate access to PFC space during the week as needed
  • Redirect queries to appropriate people and ministries  
  • Other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

  • A spiritually mature Christian who believes in the vision, core mission, vision and values of Peace Fellowship Church
  • Gifted in teaching, leading, and pastoring children and youth
  • A strong pastoral heart for children and youth
  • Demonstrated strong administrative skills; possessing the ability to take a vision and execute on all of the details
  • A self-starter that is a good steward of time, talent and resources with outstanding organizational and leadership skills
  • Candidate has demonstrated experience in leading and serving in predominantly African-American, working class setting
  • Theological training or education is highly preferred but not required for candidates with proven experience
  • Qualified under 1 Tim 3: 2-7 to pastoral ministry
  • Fully affirms women and men to the call or pastoral ministry
  • Is prepared to serve in a congregation that is welcoming but not affirming of LGBTQIA persons in pastoral ministry

Expectations:

  • Grow daily as a follower of Jesus Christ
  • Become fully integrated into the life, mission, vision and values of Peace Fellowship Church
  • Communicate openly, regularly, and with tact
  • Regular attendance and participation in adult worship services
  • Attend weekly staff meetings and a once a month one-on-one meeting with Senior Pastor, congregational meetings once every quarter, and leadership meetings once every other month

 

Compensation:  Starting at $43,000/annually with health and retirement benefits

Reports to: Senior Pastor, Rev. Delonte J. Gholston with oversight by Elders and Trustees
